Sheffield Futures unequivocally condemns the racist actions of the far-right that have taken place in Sheffield and across the country in recent days.
We exist to support young people. Young people deserve to feel safe and cared for, regardless of their race or religion. Families should not be living in fear for the safety of their children. It is unacceptable that young people of colour may not feel able to come into the city centre to access support from us and other essential organisations.
Many of those targeted by the attacks came to Sheffield seeking sanctuary, having fled violence and persecution. This should be a wake-up call to our political leaders that we need to reprioritise our communities as places of hope, humanity, diversity and inclusivity. False news and dehumanising language have played a dangerous role in the UK for far too long.
Alongside and with Sheffield’s VCS, we are in ongoing discussions about what coordinated actions we can take as a community to show our practical solidarity, love and unity. In the meantime, we remain open and here for all young people.
